Our first excursion was to the Hermitage! IMG_4963

We had a wonderful tour guide who was very passionate about all of the art and architecture inside. I learned so much and saw so much. We had these ear pieces and as long as we were close enough we could hear her talking into the microphone (the wonders of technology). The first few rooms we went in were part of the Winter Palace. They were perhaps the most beautiful and intricate rooms I have ever been in. Gold was everywhere and every surface was decorated.

The second part of the Hermitage was all artwork that was collected mostly by Catherine the Great and other wealthy Russians (or stolen). I saw Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Rafael, Lorenzo, Canova, and in another building (Hermitage part 2) I saw Picasso and Monet.

Amazingly it takes eight years to see everything, so it is basically impossible to see everything sadly. Nevertheless, I 10/10 recommend going to the Hermitage (and Russia) in your lifetime.
